A precise and accurate coffee presentation, from production to roasting, his professionalism and creativity did the rest. The coveted title of 2011 World Barista Champion was awarded to Alejandro Mendez, the Salvadorean barista. For the first time in eleven years a coffee-producing country wins the World Barista Championship with a performance that his barista rivals and champions of previous years defined as incredible. "It's a gift to the world" Alejandro Mendez called his performance "but my presentation was only possible thanks to great team work between my company, coffee producers and all those who worked to make this possible. " From coffee to the machine, the enormous amount of work during the WBC also honored Nuova Simonelli, the event sponsor who, in the last of their 3 years of sponsorship, again confirmed their desire to be a partner for baristas, to support them and work with them to expand the sector and the cultural appreciation of the coffee. Aurelia Competizione, the espresso coffee machine that participated in the victories of Gwilym Davies on 2009 in Atlanta, Michael Phillips on 2010 in London and Alejandro Mendez on 2011 in Bogotà, continues to win over more and more baristas who love competing. Nuova Simonelli will continue to analyze and design, together with professionals, coffee machines that are increasingly responsive to users' needs. Nuova Simonelli congratulates Alejandro Mendez 2011 World Barista Champion, and thanks all the baristas who, with the company, shared many wonderful moments during the three-year sponsorship of the event. Once again we have an "Aurelia Competition", the espresso machine that will be used by champion baristas for the World Barista Championship in Bogotà (Colombia) from 2-5 June. Aurelia was created to promote the professionalism of baristas and has succeeded in this aim, with performance and technical features which have enabled it to become the official machine for the World Barista Championship.
CONTINUOUS INNOVATION. The "Aurelia Competizione” adds interesting new features to the qualities of the Aurelia, such as the latest generation digital pressure-stat which facilitates extremely precise push button changes to the boiler temperature and a control display, with a choice of readings in bars, Celsius or Fahrenheit. The cool touch steam wands are patented. They help prevent burning and make cleaning easy because the milk does not leave deposits. The filter holders are Teflon coated inside, with the great advantages that they do not foul the coffee, are easy to clean and preserve the aroma of the coffee in the cup. The filter-holder handle is also covered in special hand stitched natural leather, which offers the same tactile feel as steering wheels in the finest sports cars.
DESIGN. A real 'coffee ambassador' even in its design. The new "Aurelia Competition" 2011 recalls the flavors, aromas and warm atmosphere of Colombia. An explosion of colors: brown, orange, green lilac and blue mix in a charming and dynamic dance. Symbolism plays an important role in this, the twelfth edition of the WBC, because the host country, Colombia, is the heart of world coffee production. So the Aurelia Competition is designed with enriched images and colors that recall this country, which stretches from the Andes to the Coffee Zone. It is known for the production and harvesting of coffee, where tradition, folklore and art are the soul of the Colombian coffee . The original design of "Aurelia Competition" is associated with another eye-catching novelty. The work surface is illuminated by low energy LEDs, which improves visibility for the barista and creates a pleasing visual effect for the machine. On the side of the "Aurelia Competition" the World Barista Championship brand is displayed soberly and elegantly, which is in character and denotes the machine of champions.
A COLLECTOR'S EDITION. The "Aurelia Competizione” Bogotà 2011 is even more exclusive. In fact, it will only be produced as the "WBC 12th Anniversary Limited Edition" and there will only be 30 numbered machines. Some of these will be used by the champions of the bar to compete in the WBC World Cup final.

For the first time in a coffee-producing country, for the first time in Colombia, in a picturesque but real journey from plant to cup. From June 2 to 5 the coffee world will be focused on Bogota and the Expoespeciales Trade Show where the world barista championship will be held. The event, which every year attracts a more qualified audience and many fans, is now in its twelfth year and, for the third consecutive year, relies on Nuova Simonelli technology, in particular on the "Aurelia Competition" espresso machine, to choose the 2011 barista world champion. The Nuova Simonelli team is ready for a new challenge and will give maximum support to all the national champions competing in front of the WBC judges, as already confirmed by a promo video that is currently going crazy on all the major social networks. But the best support for baristas will be, as always, from the remarkable technical qualities of the "Aurelia Competition" with its thermal stability, high reliability and ergonomics, enabling them to get the performance "of champions". What design will the Aurelia Competition 2011 have? The new "Aurelia Competition" 2011 recalls the flavors, aromas and warm atmosphere of Colombia. An explosion of colors: brown, orange, green, lilac and blue are mixed in a charming and dynamic dance. Symbolism plays an important role in this, the twelfth edition of the WBC, because the host country, Colombia, is the heart of world coffee production. And already there have been many requests to reserve a “WBC 12th Anniversary Limited Edition" with only 30 numbered pieces which will be exhibited during the championship in the Nuova Simonelli stand. The special limited edition version was created to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of the World Barista Championship. As a special prize, the 2011 WBC champion will receive an Athena Lever coffee machine from the prestigious Victoria Arduino collection. The lever system, which recalls the ancient coffee tradition, has been rediscovered by baristas and is chosen by an increasingly number of professionals and coffee chains. This is also because it is used on training courses that Gwilym Davies, 2009 WBC champion, in collaboration with Nuova Simonelli, organizes around the world.

"Tired, but very happy and satisfied” the winner declared “now I will work on representing France to the best of my ability in the ranking of the 2011 World Barista Championship and most of all I will work to spread the coffee culture in my country. Thinking of Bogota I will start training right away with the Aurelia Competition coffee machine which, during this competition allowed me to work very well, especially letting me get a really good extraction and excellent milk frothing. To evaluate this a committee of expert international judges were asked to verify and examine the various performances, subject to very strict standards.
